“Din Tai Fung is finally in Manila!”
Well, when I first learned that, I had no reaction whatsoever, because I didn’t know what Din Tai Fun is. When I visited Taiwan last month, we didn’t even include it in our itinerary. I’m not big on Chinese food, so forgive me when I only got to try xiao long bao for the first time last month.
Thankfully, the good reviews of Din Tai Fung in Megamall convinced my friends and I to try it. It’s been a long time since our last get-together. We met in my old company back in 2010-2011, and even though we’ve all moved on to different jobs, we still keep in touch. In fact, I still talk them everyday! However, getting the gang together can be really difficult. So I was really happy last Saturday to meet with them, even though some still couldn’t come.
We arrived at Din Tai Fung past 11:00 A.M., and suffice to say, we were already famished. Good thing even though it’s lunch time on a weekend, we didn’t have to wait long for our turn. They were very systematic, and guests can look at the menu while waiting.
I thought there’s only one kind of xiao long bao, but I was wrong! We settled for Pork Xiao Long Bao, and Ayessa had a separate order of Green Squash and Shrimp Xiao Long Bao. Our Pork Xiao Long Bao was pretty good! It tasted great even without the sauce.
Our server gave us instruction cards on how to eat xiao long bao, and he even taught us how to mix our soy sauce, vinegar and ginger to achieve the best dip.
Kimpee ordered the beef noodle soup, but I don’t think he liked it. I’m not exactly sure why, though. Anyway, next time I’ll definitely try their noodles.
Ayessa ordered the stir-fried Chinese Kangkong. They have a wide variety of vegetable dishes and appetizers. Next time, I’m gonna order appetizers, too. Heh. The things I’ll order “next time” are piling up, don’t you think?
Because I was hungry, I ordered 5 pieces of Steamed Shrimp and Pork Shao Mai, too! I love it! I’m definitely a siomai person, and this is something I can order again and again.
I also love Eunise’s order of Crispy Shrimps and Pork Wontons! I think I ate two pieces, lol. But seriously though, I love how crispy it was. Eunise found it a little too tough to bite, but I thought it has the right crispiness to it.
Eunise and I ordered a serving of Pork Chop Fried Rice, too. The serving could easily feed three persons if you ordered a lot, but it was just enough for the two of us. We almost had separate orders! If we did, we’d be bloated until today. I love this dish, too. The pork chop was really tasty, and the fried rice wasn’t dry. You can order an ala carte serving of the pork chop and the fried rice, too.
Overall, we had a really filling and satisfying meal! I love how there are tons of options to choose. Though the xiao long bao is the clear winner, the other items on the menu are incredibly good, too.
As you can see, I’m easily satisfied. This is why I can never be a food blogger. It’s either really bad or really good for me. When it comes to food, it’s only black and white, no shades in between. I love food, so how will I ever achieve my goal of losing 5kg this year?
Anyway, as for Din Tai Fung, this not-so-picky eater highly recommends!
